Chapter 1393 - 275: Burning Out Like an Oil Lamp – Grandmother and Maternal Grandmother (Part 1)

When the two walked in, Aunt Cui was already there. She had heard the commotion and rushed over. With the mistress not around, she was like a headless fly, running about aimlessly.

Seeing Ji Yunya and Yan Hua come in, she excitedly went to greet them: "Miss Ji, you must save Fifth Master...."

Ji Yunya gently brushed away her hand, "I’ll do my best."

She walked over and glanced at the person lying on the bed. It was her first time seeing Yan Nanfeng, so thin he was out of shape, with high cheekbones and a darkened brow, lips purple – signs of impending death.

Ji Yunya raised her hand to check his pulse, his hand colder than hers, all bone beneath her touch, shocking to the heart.

Her brows furrowed tighter and tighter, and behind her, Yan Hua softly asked, "How is it?"

Ji Yunya shook her head and lowered her hand.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to save him, but rather, she was powerless to do so. No matter how skilled she was, it was impossible to snatch someone from the hands of death.

Yan Nanfeng had already reached the end of his days, beyond help of medicine or stone.

Yan Hua covered her mouth in disbelief, tears pouring down, "Is there really no way?"

Ji Yunya turned to look at her. It was her first time witnessing Yan Hua cry so sorrowfully, a faint heartache spreading inside. Yet, her medical skill notwithstanding, she was powerless regarding Yan Nanfeng. In fact, given his condition, him living so many years was already the greatest miracle.

Aunt Cui wailed and suddenly knelt before Ji Yunya with a thud, knocking her head to the floor, "Miss Ji, I beg you to save our Fifth Master, please...."

Ji Yunya quickly got up, frowning lightly, "What are you doing? Get up."

Aunt Cui, eyes red, remained kneeling, her aged face firm with resolve: "Miss Ji, I know your medical skills are high, and you’re a disciple of Doctor Hua, you could definitely save Fifth Master. I know you hold a grudge because of the mistress, but if you save Fifth Master, the mistress will surely be grateful. I’ll serve you as a horse, I beg you."

Thud, thud, thud, her head struck the floor with a resounding noise, so shocking in this silent night.

Though she and Lu Yuke aided wrongdoing, it was undeniable she was a loyal servant.

"Cough, cough...." The person in bed coughed, slowly opened his eyes, truly a pair of beautiful and clear eyes, making her suddenly recall Miaomiao.

Yan Hua immediately rushed over, "Uncle, you’re awake."

Aunt Cui wiped her tears, moved her knees over, smiling, "Fifth Master...."

Yan Nanfeng’s gaze swept over Yan Hua, stopping on the girl standing at the foot of the bed. He smiled, but the smile wasn’t very pleasant, followed by another bout of light coughing.

He said, "You’re Ah Song’s fiancée, right?"

Ji Yunya calmly watched him, the dim lamp flickering but failing to illuminate the darkness in his eyes.

"I am Ji Yunya," she said quietly.

Yan Nanfeng curved his mouth into a slight smile, "That’s good, I wish you and Ah Song... cough, cough to grow old together...."

"Thank you."

"Uncle, stop talking." Yan Hua’s tears fell like a string of beads.

Yan Nanfeng wanted to raise his hand to pat her head, like he had countless times when she was small, but the hand he lifted fell weakly.

"Huahua, I’m sorry."

Yan Hua shook her head desperately, "No, Uncle, I don’t want you to leave me." She reached out to hold him, buried her head in his chest, the chest so thin, her heart wrenching like a knife cut, just shaking her head desperately.

Yan Song and Doctor Hua entered from outside, Ji Yunya quickly walked over, "Master, sorry to trouble you to come here, could you, for my sake, save Uncle?"

Doctor Hua huffed and glared, turning to sternly eye Yan Song: "Fetching me out of bed in the middle of the night, do any of you understand respect for teachers and the way?"

Yan Song looked innocent, like a pig unafraid of boiling water.

Ji Yunya smiled, "Master, it’s urgent. As the saying goes, saving a life is better than building a seven-tiered pagoda. I just checked Uncle’s condition, he’s exhausted beyond recovery, do you have any good methods, Master?"

"Best to prepare for his affairs soon, all this fuss is just futile struggle, might as well let him be relieved sooner. Besides, it’s that woman’s son, why would I save him just because I’m full?" Doctor Hua rolled his eyes, going to sit on a chair, crossing one leg over the other.

Yan Hua suddenly fell at his feet, kneeling on the ground, on the verge of tears: "Doctor Hua, you are the living embodiment of mercy, I beg you to save my uncle, I’ll pray for blessings for you from now on, just save him."

Faced with such a young girl’s plea, Doctor Hua couldn’t bear to refuse. He sighed: "Alright, get up."
