Chapter 1319 - 256: Struggling at Death’s Door, Asking for Trouble
"I missed you, so I came. Are you unhappy to see me?"
"I am happy." Yun Ya said as she walked downstairs, her eyes surveying the surroundings. This was not a place she was familiar with. Where was Brother Yan?
"See, I told you, you missed me." Ning Zihuan followed Yun Ya with a grin, while Jiang Xiang itched to punch him in the face.
Yun Ya suddenly stopped in her tracks, turned her head to look at Jiang Xiang. Her dark eyes were like a deep pool, making Jiang Xiang’s heart involuntarily tremble. Such a terrifying look...
Clearly, there was no aura, yet it gave people a creepy feeling.
"Who are you?"
"She’s Yan Song’s person; she seems quite close to Yan Song. Yun Ya, you should be careful..." Ning Zihuan quickly spoke before Jiang Xiang, displaying a strong ability to twist facts.
Yun Ya’s expression didn’t change, she just looked at Jiang Xiang.
Jiang Xiang calmed her mind and responded neither humbly nor overbearingly, "Hello Miss Ji, my name is Jiang Xiang, I’m an officer under Officer Yan, and he ordered me to protect Miss Ji’s safety."
Yun Ya nodded, said nothing more, and continued down the stairs.
Jiang Xiang quietly let out a sigh of relief. Yun Ya noticed her subtle movement and couldn’t help but smile. Was she really that frightening?
"Yun Ya." A man sitting on the sofa in the living room stood up, despite his bruised face, it did not detract from his composed demeanor.
Yun Ya’s eyes lit up as she smiled and walked over, "Brother Ah Du, why are you here?"
Qin Du smiled at her, "Seeing you are fine puts me at ease." After speaking, he sighed and said with a dim look, "This time I’ve troubled you. Kang Cheng...he was targeting me, it’s my fault for not protecting you..."
Yun Ya shook her head with a smile, "Misfortunes can’t be avoided. Besides, how do you know he was after you? I have quite a few enemies myself, maybe it was me they were after." She was well aware in her heart that Kang Cheng was just a pretext, the people behind it were indeed aiming for her. Yet, it wouldn’t be convenient to tell Qin Du, and letting him feel guilty troubled her as well.
Qin Du looked her over, his eyes showing some heartache, "You’ve lost weight, is he good to you?"
Yun Ya touched her face, smiling, "Very good, and what about you and Uncle Qin? And Aunt Die, before I left, the two of them were arguing, have they made up now?"
Qin Du shook his head, "They’re still in a cold war. I’ll go persuade dad when I get back."
In fact, Ji Die has been keeping a low profile recently, usually hiding in her room. Even Qin Zhuan wants to have a word with her but can’t see her face. Those unaware might think she has lost heart due to arguing with Qin Zhuan.
"Well, Aunt Die is soft-natured, but if she gets stubborn, not even nine oxen can pull her back. Let’s give her some time to figure it out on her own."
As the two of them enjoyed their warm conversation like ordinary siblings, Ning Zihuan couldn’t get a word in edgewise, becoming somewhat anxious.
"Kang Cheng... How did he become your enemy? Was it because of business matters?" Yun Ya asked.
Qin Du nodded, "I grabbed a major project, and Kang Cheng wouldn’t let it go, seeking revenge. I’m usually cautious, but he somehow found out about our relationship and happened to run into you. Yun Ya, I won’t let this happen again; believe me."
Yun Ya smiled, "I believe you, Brother Ah Du."
Qin Du wanted to reach out and rub her head, like he had countless times when they were young, but he ultimately restrained himself. Their identities were different now; he couldn’t protect her or add to her troubles anymore.
Yun Ya looked intently at his face, finally unable to resist asking, "Brother Ah Du, what happened to your face?"
Ning Zihuan shot a glare at Qin Du, hoping he’d be smart enough not to say, or he’d end up bedridden for half a year.
Qin Du ignored Ning Zihuan’s glare and chuckled nonchalantly, "Got beaten up."
"That must have hurt. Sit still, and I’ll put some medicine on you." Yun Ya didn’t press on about who hit him. Everyone has secrets, and chasing them to the root is pointless. She turned to Jiang Xiang and instructed, "Go fetch some alcohol swabs and medicine."
"Yes." Jiang Xiang turned and left, shortly returning with the items Yun Ya requested.
Yun Ya pressed Qin Du onto the sofa, sitting in front of him as she carefully tended to his facial wounds. Physical contact between them was inevitable given their closeness. So close, Qin Du could see the tiny pores on her face...he promptly lowered his gaze, hands on his knees slightly clenched.
"Who would strike so viciously, specifically targeting vulnerable spots...." Yun Ya’s tone carried a hint of grievance.
