Chapter 1309 - 254: Strange People, Fairy Tale World (Second Update)
The basement was cold and damp, with no windows, pitch black. Ning Zihuan turned on the flashlight function on his phone and the strong beam illuminated the ground at his feet. Ning Zihuan stepped down the stairs.
The basement wasn’t large; you could see the end of it at a glance. There was no one there.
Fu Bai dragged Kang Cheng inside, the muzzle of his gun aimed directly at Kang Cheng’s temple: "Where are the people?"
Kang Cheng hadn’t expected these people to carry guns. Were they police or... whatever they were, they were not people he could afford to offend: "The people really are in the basement, how could they not be?"
"Be honest, don’t try any tricks on me, otherwise I’ll blow your head off right now." Ning Zihuan jabbed the loaded gun harshly against Kang Cheng’s brow, his face gloomy and hostile, eyes as fierce as a wolf.
Kang Cheng was truly scared: "I... I had Kang Qiao bring people here to hide. How could they not be here? You should search again."
Ning Zihuan grabbed Kang Cheng by the collar and threw him onto the open ground of the basement, firing several shots: "Bang bang bang...." The echo of the gunshots reverberated in the cold basement, deafening.
Kang Cheng screamed, his voice piercingly mournful. After yelling, he realized he was unharmed; the bullets had grazed past him, giving him a fright, yet even so, cold sweat broke out on his back from the shock.
"Enough." Pei Qinghan frowned, stepping forward: "They’re not here. Fu Bai, take people and search the surrounding area; they must be found."
"Yes." Fu Bai dispersed his men and left to search as well.
"Why are you here?" Pei Qinghan looked at Ning Zihuan, the words meant for him, but didn’t leave and instead went towards the second floor.
Ning Zihuan snorted coldly: "I’m here to find Yun Ya. What, not welcome?"
Pei Qinghan curled his lips, searching room by room on the second floor. Ning Zihuan mocked: "Stop looking, I’ve already searched these rooms; there’s no one."
He cast a glance at Qin Du who stood like a fool in the living room, rolled his eyes, and didn’t hide his sarcasm: "A useless man; besides causing trouble for Yun Ya, what else can you do?"
The one he disliked most was Qin Du, who had stayed abroad with Yun Ya for ten years, spending the longest time with him.
Qin Du pressed his lips, his hands clenched into fists: "It’s my fault. As long as we can rescue Yun Ya, I am willing to do whatever you say."
"What’s it to you if I rescue Yun Ya? Don’t take yourself too seriously, okay? Do me a favor and get away as far as possible." Ning Zihuan spoke with no nicety.
Qin Du’s face paled slightly, his gaze fell on Kang Cheng, a cold glint passing through his eyes.
Suddenly Pei Qinghan asked: "Who is this Kang Qiao?" The question was directed at Kang Cheng.
Kang Cheng was stunned, quickly replying: "He’s my bodyguard, also a distant cousin. Recently he couldn’t find a job so he came to me."
Pei Qinghan entered a guest room; it was simply furnished, with almost nothing superfluous. The quilt was folded perfectly, the sheets had no creases, and there wasn’t a speck of dust on the table. There was one cigarette butt in the ashtray by the bed, and he touched the ash—there was still residual warmth.
Someone had just left.
This room was so clean it hardly seemed to belong to a man.
Pei Qinghan squinted slightly, suddenly striding outside. Ning Zihuan asked: "Where are you going?"
Pei Qinghan ignored him, quickly walked out of the villa, and stood in the yard. Fu Bai came over: "Brother Han, what’s the matter?"
"They’re no longer here. Check the nearby surveillance; they should have just left not long ago. Also, get me information on this Kang Qiao’s identity." Pei Qinghan quickly instructed.
"Yes." Fu Bai turned and went to handle the task.
Pei Qinghan looked at the somewhat gloomy sky, his mood matching the weather—oppressive and heavy.
Ning Zihuan chased out: "What’s going on with you? Where is Yun Ya?"
Pei Qinghan rubbed his brow: "Get lost, don’t bother me." He was in a bad mood, Ning Zihuan better not provoke him.
"Haha, you’re the first to tell me to get lost, Pei Qinghan. Who do you think you are?" After speaking, he kicked towards Pei Qinghan; he’d been annoyed with this guy for a long time.
Pei Qinghan dodged swiftly, his features calm like frosty snow: "This isn’t Jiangzhou; I advise you to be sensible, or I won’t hold back."
"Who the hell needs you to hold back, Pei Qinghan? Don’t act like a woman; if you’re going to fight, stop whining and speed it up."
Pei Qinghan rolled up his sleeves, readying his stance, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
"That’s more like it." Ning Zihuan sneered, kicked at Pei Qinghan, and the two instantly tangled in combat. Qin Du came out and saw this scene; Ning Zihuan attacked fiercely, catching Pei Qinghan off guard. Pei Qinghan countered with softness, defensively tight. The fight was evenly matched, until Pei Qinghan used a feint to pin Ning Zihuan on the ground.
