Chapter 434: Don’t Abandon Us!
Eager to see him, Mu Yan ran downstairs without even putting on slippers. She didn’t feel a thing as her feet stepped on the cold floor.
Jiang Jingheng stepped inside with two servings of wontons, just in time to see Mu Yan rushing down the stairs.
Seeing him, Mu Yan’s heart settled down.
He didn’t lie to her; he was back., and took out a pair of slippers, walking over to put them in front of her.
Mu Yan immediately slipped them on and looked at him with a pleasing smile, saying, "They’re warm."
The words of reprimand he intended to say dissolved seeing her adorable demeanor, leaving Jiang Jingheng somewhat resigned.
"Remember to wear shoes next time."
"Got it." Mu Yan nodded like pounding garlic.
She looked at him and asked, "How is Xiyue?"
Jiang Jingheng replied calmly, "A mild concussion and some minor injuries, nothing major."
Mu Yan breathed a sigh of relief at his words, that’s good.
With the burden in her heart lifted, she finally felt hunger.
"Grumble, grumble..."
Mu Yan’s face heated up slightly, "I didn’t eat much at dinner, I’ll make some noodles now."
Jiang Jingheng stopped her, saying helplessly, "Didn’t eat much, or didn’t eat at all?"
Mu Yan lowered her head and whispered, "I ate?"
"Looks like I need to check the kitchen then." Jiang Jingheng said as he started walking toward the kitchen.
Mu Yan held him back, earnestly saying, "I did have a glass of milk."
Jiang Jingheng could barely hold back a laugh, using a glass of milk as dinner, he couldn’t believe she said that.
He raised his hand to pinch her cheek, "Don’t do that again."
"Got it." Mu Yan continued to charm her way through.
"Sit at the dining table, I brought back food," Jiang Jingheng said, then turned to get the bag from the shoe cabinet.
Mu Yan sat at the dining table, eyeing the red chili oil wontons in front of her, her mouth watering.
She picked up her chopsticks and started eating; they were still warm and tasted authentic.
"So delicious," she praised between bites.
Jiang Jingheng looked at her dotingly, amazed that a serving of red chili oil wontons could make her so happy; she was so easily satisfied.
After eating, the two of them went back to their room to rest.
Jiang Jingheng noticed that tonight Mu Yan clung to him more than usual, as if he had unknowingly triggered some nerve of hers.
That night, Mu Yan had a dream.
Cold sweat dripped from her forehead as she mumbled, "Don’t abandon us, don’t!"
"No, Nuannuan will be good."
...
"Mu Yan, wake up." The dream seemed to tear apart as a male voice sounded.
Mu Yan slowly awoke, opening her eyes to see Jiang Jingheng’s face.
She suddenly hugged him tightly and burst into tears.
Jiang Jingheng held her, gently patting her back to soothe her.
"It’s nothing, just a dream."
Mu Yan didn’t speak, curling up in his embrace, unwilling to move.
After a long time, Jiang Jingheng asked, "What did you dream about?"
Mu Yan muffledly said, "Nothing."
Jiang Jingheng’s eyes flickered, realizing she didn’t want to tell him.
He softly said, "I’m here, just sleep."
"Okay." Mu Yan pursed her lips, closed her eyes, and the scenes from the dream surfaced in her mind.
A little girl, about six or seven years old, hid behind the door, her eyes full of resentment as she watched the back of someone leaving resolutely.
