Chapter 1021: Envy
Chapter 1021: Envy
Yin Manqing tugged at the corner of her mouth and ignored her; after all, this sort of situation was impossible unless the old man went senile. The more they spoke, the more infuriating it got, until the old man was thoroughly enraged, "If you don’t want to eat, then get out!"
Qiu Shuyun couldn’t maintain her composure. Being reprimanded like this in front of the younger generation, she got up and headed upstairs.
"Mom!" Jiang Wenhui called out, but Qiu Shuyun had already stormed upstairs.
She looked slightly embarrassed as she glanced at everyone, then said to the old man, "Grandpa, don’t be angry. Today was my mom’s fault; she’s probably not feeling well, so she’s speaking nonsensically."
Jiang Zhengfeng also said, "Dad, I’ll scold her when we get back to the room and make her apologize to you."
The old man glanced at his son, expressionless, and said, "Let’s eat."
Everyone exchanged glances and picked up their bowls and chopsticks, eating in silence.
Soon after the meal, Jiang Jingheng went to the study with the old man to report on work.
Mu Yan accompanied Liu Xiangqing to look at wedding dresses, and Jiang Wenhui came over to apologize once again to Mu Yan on behalf of her mother.
"Nuannuan, don’t mind it. My mom speaks that way, but she doesn’t mean any harm."
Mu Yan smiled, "I understand."
She didn’t believe Qiu Shuyun had no ill intent, but there was no need to disregard Jiang Wenhui’s good intentions.
In comparison, Jiang Wenhui seemed nothing like Qiu Shuyun’s daughter; the difference was too great.
Jiang Wenhui saw she wasn’t upset and breathed a sigh of relief, smiling, "Even though it’s our first meeting, seeing you feels familiar. It seems true that you’re not part of a family unless you fit in. Come home often in the future."
Beside her, Liu Xiangqing asked, "How long will you be staying this time?"
"Not sure. I guess I’ll stay for a while," Jiang Wenhui said, her eyes flashing.
"That’s good. With you home, I’ll have someone to talk to every time I visit."
"Isn’t my big brother’s company enough for you?" Jiang Wenhui teased.
Liu Xiangqing was speechless, "You know your big brother is such a taciturn person."
Everyone laughed at this.
Soon after, Jiang Jingheng came downstairs, ready to take Mu Yan home.
Jiang Wenhui tried to persuade them, "Why not stay at home? It’s late, don’t go back."
"I have some business tomorrow, maybe next time," Mu Yan smiled and declined.
Jiang Wenhui didn’t insist, "Alright, be careful on the road."
Mu Yan said goodbye to the other elders and left with Jiang Jingheng.
As soon as they left, Jiang Zhengfang asked Jiang Zhengting, "Sister, did the old man really give the shares to Jing Heng?"
"Probably not," Jiang Zhengting shook her head, "There’s no reason for Dad to hide something like this. It’s probably our second sister-in-law getting envious seeing Jing Heng spending money so lavishly."
"But where did Jingheng get all that money?" Jiang Zhengfang was a bit puzzled.
Jiang Zhengting looked at her sister, speechless, "Do you think someone who can make the group thrive doesn’t have the skill to make money? Anyway, we’re all married off, and it’s unlikely Dad will let daughters or sons-in-law inherit the family business."
Jiang Zhengfang was silent for a moment, thinking it’s true, they won’t miss out on what they’re entitled to anyway.
Upstairs, Jiang Wenhui had just returned to her room when Qiu Shuyun came over.
"Your grandfather is really too much, being so biased. They’re all grandchildren, why is there such a big difference?"
Jiang Wenhui looked at her mother, feeling a bit of a headache. Her mother, after decades, had not changed this petty nature, dragging Yu Tai into the same mindset.
She frowned slightly, "If Yu Tai has Jing Heng’s abilities, would Grandpa not give him a chance? I heard that a few months ago Grandpa made Yu Tai the executive director, but then he was removed."
