Chapter 184: The Strange Boy in the Forest
"Cari? What’s wrong?"
"I don’t like them," Cari said.
Even though he hadn’t even seen the person’s face or exchanged a greeting, he refused to go near them while pulling Qiong Xing away quickly.
"Cari? Do you know this person?"
"No. But... they feel... gross. I don’t like it."
Cari had always been a bit shy, but his strong refusal surprised both Joa and Qiong Xing.
They exchanged glances and feeling taken aback.
"Gross? You mean scary?"
"I don’t know... my back feels weird."
Qiong Xing lifted Cari gently into his arms to calm him down.
As he stroked his back and reassured him that everything was fine, he hugged him tightly.
"It’s rare for Cari to react this strongly," Joa observed. "But we can’t risk anything happening, so let’s head back today."
Although the situation didn’t seem dangerous yet, forcing him to stay longer would be unfair.
Qiong Xing carried Cari and leaving Lian to Joa.
"It’s okay. We’ll head home now," Joa said, addressing Cari who kept his face turned down.
Altough he didn’t speak, Qiong Xing noticed him nod slightly against his shoulder.
"How’s Mayo doing?"
"Mayo~"
Mayo response Softly.
Mayo seemed a little subdued but could move on his own.
Qiong Xing let him walk while gently stroking his head as he nuzzled him.
Mayo made happy little noises in response.
"And Lian... seems okay too. Let’s head home quickly—"
"Iseul! I’m home!"
"Huh? It’s took you long enough, big brother," came a voice from somewhere.
Before Qiong Xing could react, something red fell from above.
With a small rush, a red gaze that matching the color of the clothing fixed on him from the ground.
"..."
Qiong Xing told himself firmly: he hadn’t seen anything.
He wasn’t going to get involved.
As he turned around, he walked quickly away from the scene.
"Hey, where are you going?"
"..."
"Hey! Are you ignoring me? Ignoring me? Heyyyy—"
He already knew: this was going to be troublesome.
Personally, he didn’t think he would get along with this type of person at all.
Feeling Cari trembling in his arms, he tightened his hold to reassure him.
Although they were walking quickly and moving at a brisk pace, the man behind them kept following whilelaughing as if he weren’t being ignored at all.
"Heyyy, are you human? You’re human, right? So... how about being my pet?"
Who would agree to that?!
"Hey, are you even listening? Come on, be my pet! I’ll take care of you! Feed you! Play with you!"
"..."
Qiong Xing ignored him and saying nothing, he not even acknowledging the man’s words. But the man kept talking, clearly enjoying himself.
"You look good, and you don’t seem stupid, which is a perfect pet material, right? You know how some people look good but are total idiots? Not you. And you’re not scared of me either. That makes me mad, you know?"
Well, he had to inform him: I’m the one getting mad right now!
Qiong Xing couldn’t take the man home with them, so he kept moving through the forest as he keeping an eye on Joa while trying to lose him.
"C’mon, be my pet. What’s the problem? I said I’ll take care of you! I mean it!"
Trying to make a human into a pet was a problem in itself and Qiong Xing had no reason to trust him.
He tried to shake him off, but despite running alongside Qiong Xing and Cari, the man didn’t seem tired at all.
In fact, Qiong Xing who is already carrying Cari and not very strong to begin with was starting to feel exhausted.
"Seriously, listen to me. Oh, are you the type who likes being ordered around? Is that it? Then I’m really good at it—"
"Iseul!! Where the hell are you going!? I told you to wait there—"
The familiar voice made Qiong Xing stop in his tracks.
Behind him, the figure of another familiar man appeared.
"You... you’re that guy from before!"
Qiong Xing immediately sank to the ground and sitting down heavily while still holding Cari.
"Doesn’t matter right now. Just... take this person away somewhere. My child is scared," Qiong Xing said firmly.
"Huh?"
Raon noticed that the boy in Qiong Xingyu’s arms was trembling slightly.
Was he cold?
He thought at first, but when he looked properly, he realized that his younger brother was still trying to talk to Qiong Xing happily.
That was when Raon realized the culprit was his younger brother!
He quickly pulled his younger brother away in panic.
"S-sorry. He’s still not good at controlling his magic," Raon said while feeling slightly embarrassed.
His younger brother could take on a human form, but his magic control wasn’t precise.
The excess magic flowing off him must have been intimidating the child.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing, big brother? We’re in the middle of negotiations, let me go!"
"Idiot! What negotiations?!"
Iseul struggled violently and demanding to be released, but Raon knew that if he let him go, his younger brother would just charge forward again.
"B-but, he’s so pretty, right? I want him as my pet!"
"Absolutely not. Go eat some grass or get buried somewhere," Raon replied flatly.
Clearly, he was extremely disliked by Qiong Xing.
There was not even a fragment of hope here.
"No way! He’s telling me no... Eoesn’t that make it even better? This is awesome!"
Raon wasn’t sure if that was good or bad...
"The negotiations are over. Please go home," he said firmly.
"Eh~ don’t say that~"
Iseul tried to move closer again and Raon immediately smacked him on the back of the head to stop him.
But his younger brother who is strangely agitated didn’t even react to the pain and struggled desperately to escape from his arms.
He had always thought his younger brother was a strange one, but it was still rare to see him so fixated on something.
"They say foolish children are cute, but I don’t like idiots who refuse to listen to others," Qiong Xing said coldly.
