A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 598 - 598

Chapter 598 - 598

"Dirk Carter?"

Upon hearing this name.

Draven Hayes murmured.

Obviously, this name was somewhat unfamiliar to him.

At that moment, he noticed a sudden flash in Dorothy Zechariah's eyes, and her body involuntarily shivered.

In that instant, he seemed to realize something.

He pushed away the woman in front of him.

Grabbed Dorothy Zechariah by the collar, smiling slightly, "This Dirk Carter, he's the father of the child, right?"

Dorothy Zechariah turned her head away.

She didn't say a word.

Though she said nothing, Draven Hayes guessed something.

With a forceful push, Dorothy Zechariah fell to the ground.

Draven Hayes stood up.

He put on the robe that was on the floor and said, "Afu, meet the guest."

...

In the villa's living room.

Dirk Carter had been sitting on the sofa for over ten minutes.

Arlo Yarbrough stood behind him, looking a bit impatient.

Suddenly.

There were footsteps on the stairs.

Following the sound, he looked over.

On the grand, high-end spiral staircase, a man in a robe strolled down leisurely.

Dirk Carter had just stood up.

Draven Hayes's voice came over, "Executive Carter, my apologies for not greeting you sooner, my apologies..."

Saying these courteous words, Draven Hayes came forward.

The two exchanged a glance.

Draven Hayes extended his hand voluntarily and said, "Welcome Executive Carter to my humble abode."

He kept emphasizing the words "Executive Carter," seemingly to inform Dirk Carter that during the waiting, he had already dug into Dirk's background.

Dirk Carter did not shake Draven Hayes's hand but instead said coldly, "Mr. Hayes, I've come this time to see my old friend."

"Oh? Executive Carter is so direct? I thought we'd need to go around in circles."

Draven Hayes retracted his hand, sat down cockily with his legs crossed, and Afu handed over a cigarette, lighting it for him.

He took a strong puff.

Gesture around the room, he said, "I don't recall any association between Executive Carter and me, how come my home would have your old friend?"

These words clearly had a probing nature.

Dirk Carter smiled slightly, also sat down, and said, "Mr. Hayes, playing dumb isn't amusing at all."

"Oh, from Executive Carter's tone, it seems you aren't here to see any old friend, maybe here for an old flame?"

Draven Hayes teased.

Dirk Carter sneered and said, "Old friend or old flame, I kindly ask for Mr. Hayes to make it convenient."

"Convenient? You barge into the Hayes Family and then expect me to bring my wife to you, Executive Carter. Don't you think you're a bit too arrogant?"

Draven Hayes's tone turned stiff.

Unexpectedly, Dirk Carter didn't mince words and directly said, "Arrogant, I admit, after all, some individuals truly don't deserve to be called human."

With these words, the large room.

Became thick with tension.

The smile on Draven Hayes's face gradually faded.

His expression turned more sinister, questioning, "Seems like Executive Carter is here to cause trouble."

"Well, that depends on whether anyone dares to cross my line."

Dirk Carter said leisurely.

After a pause of silence.

Draven Hayes said, "Interesting, really interesting. It's been a long time since things were this interesting. Afu, bring the madam."

"Yes!"

Afu nodded, turned, and went upstairs.

The following time, no one spoke.

About two minutes later.

Footsteps sounded again on the stairs.

This time, Dirk Carter couldn't stay composed, he looked over hastily.

Only to see the once radiant Dorothy Zechariah, now timid, with dodging eyes, with bruises visible on her face, easily deduced she suffered through much abuse.

Arlo Yarbrough was the same.

Upon seeing Dorothy Zechariah in this state, he was completely thrown off.

Just as he prepared to approach her.

Draven Hayes stood up.

Came to Dorothy Zechariah's side, put an arm around her shoulder, pointed at Dirk Carter, and said, "Dear, an old friend has come to see you. Oh, no, maybe an old flame."

Originally thought, once Dorothy Zechariah saw Dirk Carter, she'd be very excited.

Unexpectedly, she wasn't; she just peeked at Dirk Carter and lowered her head again.

Seemingly unwilling to see him.

Draven Hayes was very satisfied with this behavior, he wrapped his arm around her and sat down on the sofa.

To provoke Dirk Carter.

Draven Hayes even held her head, resting it on his shoulder, adopting a very intimate posture.

"Did he hit you?"

Dirk Carter tried to control his emotions and asked Dorothy Zechariah.

Dorothy Zechariah kept her head down, not answering.

Draven Hayes chuckled disdainfully, and asked Dorothy Zechariah, "Your old flame is asking if I hit you?"

Dorothy Zechariah didn't answer.

Draven Hayes asked loudly again, this time Dorothy slightly trembled and said in barely audible words, "No, he didn't hit me."

Arlo Yarbrough was stunned.

The bruises were evident, just from one glance, indicating she was hit, so why deny it?

He looked perplexedly at Dirk Carter, seeing no reaction, he stifled his urge to speak.

"Executive Carter, you heard that I didn't hit her, but thanks for caring about my wife like that. I know how to love and pamper my wife, no need for your concern. You've seen her, Afu, see the guest out."

Draven Hayes ordered.

The middle-aged man called Afu walked in front of Dirk Carter, stretched out his hand and said, "Please!"

Dirk Carter remained sitting on the sofa, showing no intention of moving.

Draven Hayes observed.

He asked, "What? Does Executive Carter intend to stay overnight at our home? Well, I'm sorry, though we have many rooms, I can't possibly accommodate my wife's old flame, can I? If this gets out, where would Draven Hayes's face be?"

Dirk Carter didn't bother responding to him.

His gaze stayed fixed on Dorothy Zechariah.

After a pause, he said, "Dorothy, I've come to take you away."

This statement made Dorothy tremble slightly in Draven Hayes' embrace.

Yet she still didn't react further.

Draven Hayes said discontentedly, "Executive Carter, what do you mean by saying that to my wife at my home? Aren't you disregarding me?"

"Shut your mouth, I'm talking to Dorothy now."

Dirk Carter finally lost his control.

He shot a cold glance at Draven Hayes, speaking icily.

"You speaking to me?"

Draven Hayes didn't expect Dirk Carter to suddenly lose his temper and asked in disbelief.

"Heh, well you misunderstood, my leader was speaking to a dog."

Arlo Yarbrough, behind, couldn't hold back any longer, chimed in sarcastically.
