Chapter 456 456: He Really Has a Way with Things
Chapter 456 456: He Really Has a Way with Things
Boone Jacobson showed up.
That means Dirk Carter's approach has already made certain people eager to take action.
In that case, this meal is a must.
It's just as well; I can use this opportunity to find out who's plotting and scheming behind the scenes. More importantly, concerning the Garrett Family matter, Dirk Carter still needs to bring people into the fold.
Since Koryn City's political landscape appears calm and unruffled, I'll throw a stone into the water and see where it ripples.
With that in mind,
he smiled slightly and said, "Mr. Jacobson is inviting me to dinner; how could it be appropriate not to go? Mr. Jacobson, give me a time and place, and Dirk Carter will be there promptly."
This response,
Boone Jacobson should be quite satisfied.
He took out a small card from his pocket, pushed it in front of Dirk Carter, and said, "Tonight at six, Savor House, The Celestial Suite."
After speaking,
he stood up.
He said, "Then I won't disturb Minister Carter's work any longer."
Dirk Carter suddenly stood up.
He said, "Mr. Jacobson, let me walk you out."
"No need, no need, Minister Carter, you go about your business."
Hearing Dirk Carter offering to walk him out,
Boone Jacobson quickly declined.
However, since Dirk Carter was determined to escort him, Boone Jacobson had no way to refuse and found it quite honorable that the Minister of Organization would personally see him off.
The two men politely insisted on seeing each other out, walking out of the Municipal Committee Building.
And so it was that the escort continued until the entrance, where after some courteous exchanges, Dirk Carter turned and left.
In just a short while,
a Mercedes-Benz car slowly drove up in front of Boone Jacobson.
Boone Jacobson opened the car door to the back seat and got in.
In the rear seat was a woman, none other than Sister Flower.
"How did it go? Did he agree?"
Sister Flower asked.
Boone Jacobson wore an expression of smug satisfaction and said, "This Dirk Carter, he's quite the sensible one. As soon as I mentioned inviting him to dinner, he readily agreed and even escorted me out to the entrance."
"Escorted you to the entrance?"
Sister Flower was taken aback.
Boone Jacobson boasted, "Yes, he escorted me all the way down from upstairs."
Sister Flower's expression immediately darkened.
Boone Jacobson noticed something unusual and asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
"This Dirk Carter indeed has his tricks," Sister Flower murmured.
Boone Jacobson nodded, "Indeed, he knows how to handle himself."
"It's not just about handling oneself; he escorted you downstairs on purpose. No surprise, by now, the news that you're having dinner with him has spread throughout the entire office."
Sister Flower said.
Boone Jacobson scratched his head and asked, "I still don't get it. How does this benefit him?"
Sister Flower gave him a sharp look and asked, "Do you know why your company never grows bigger?"
"Why?"
"Because you, frankly, lack insight, only seeing superficial things and missing the deeper layers hidden behind them."
Even at his age, Boone Jacobson was chastised by Sister Flower without daring to retort.
He said meekly, "I went to the Organization Department to see him; the entire department is Robert Shepherd's people. Even if he didn't escort me, Robert Shepherd would know I approached him."
"It's not the same; going to see him doesn't mean anything beyond your intention to reach out. But for Dirk Carter to personally escort you downstairs implies you both have reached some kind of tacit understanding. Who in Koryn City doesn't know you usually associate closely with Cornell Morgan? This is akin to indicating to Robert Shepherd that it was Cornell Morgan pulling strings behind the Stonewater Village incident."
After Sister Flower finished speaking,
Boone Jacobson appeared stricken with alarm.
He asked, "Then should we still have the dinner?"
"Yes, of course, since it's already out in the open, go ahead and lay the cards on the table. Dirk Carter must have his reasons for doing this; draw out his demands and first deal with Robert Shepherd. If he stands in our way, then eliminate him."
"Alright, I understand."
Boone Jacobson nodded and said.
The car weaved through the bustling traffic.
Sister Flower kept gazing out the window, her eyes dreamy. The rescue at the Rexton City club and the reversal of the Stonewater Village debacle piqued her interest in Dirk Carter more and more.
Sister Flower's words were no exaggeration.
For as Dirk Carter and Boone Jacobson walked toward the entrance,
several pairs of eyes were indeed watching their every move from a window of the Municipal Government Building.
...
Six o'clock in the evening.
Savor House.
Dirk Carter appeared on time.
Originally expecting a luxurious hotel,
he discovered upon arrival that it was actually situated in a courtyard by a creek.
The scenery here was quite nice.
On an ancient-looking wooden sign read the words "Savor House."
Surrounding it was a circle of bamboo fence, covered in vines, giving off a quaint sense of charm.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Carter?"
With a creak,
the door was pushed open.
A woman dressed in purple silk appeared, holding an old-fashioned fan, strolling out leisurely to ask.
Her hair was styled in an ancient woman's chignon.
The outfit she wore was also quite vintage, having a certain allure.
Especially around the neckline, revealing a crimson decency common in period fashion below, intentional or not.
The corset was loose and casual.
Though nothing was visible, the slackness and suggestive glimpse always piqued a man's curiosity to explore further.
"I am."
Dirk Carter nodded.
The woman smiled gently and said, "Hello, Mr. Carter. Mr. Jacobson is already waiting inside for you."
Following this "hostess,"
Dirk Carter walked through this garden-like courtyard,
arriving at the door of the so-called "The Celestial Suite."
After the woman opened the door and made a welcoming gesture, Dirk Carter stepped in, and the door closed with a click.
The suite was quite large.
The decor was also upscale.
At the center was a round table.
A sofa and a tea table sat alongside it.
Facing the dining table, there was a small stage for performances.
"Minister Carter, welcome, welcome."
Boone Jacobson, busy at the tea table, stood up immediately upon seeing Dirk Carter enter, and enthusiastically bowed in welcome.
After another round of formal pleasantries,
Boone Jacobson guided Dirk Carter to take a seat by the tea table.
He called out, "Xiaoqin, Xiaoqin, come make some tea, we have a distinguished guest."
After his shout,
a young woman elegantly walked out from behind a screen by the tea table.
The moment she appeared, Dirk Carter's eyes widened.
Not because this Xiaoqin was exceptionally beautiful.
Though Xiaoqin was indeed quite attractive and well-proportioned, Dirk Carter's surprise was due to her clothing.
It resembled the elegant silk attire worn by the hostess.
She very much gave off the vibe of a classical beauty in ancient dress.
The only difference was that Xiaoqin's attire was transparent.
It was truly see-through.
Through the thin layer of gauze, her crimson corset and the alluring thong were clearly visible.
In an instant, a rush of arousal overwhelmed any man.
"Minister Carter, let me introduce Miss Hadley Grant to you; you can call her Xiaoqin. She is the owner of this establishment, Savor House."
As soon as Boone Jacobson finished the introduction,
Hadley Grant gracefully performed a curtsy like an ancient maidservant.
Composed and poised, she said, "Hello, Minister Carter. I look forward to your guidance in Koryn City."
"You're too kind, Ms. Grant."
Dirk Carter slightly nodded and said.
At this moment,
Boone Jacobson's phone rang.
After glancing at the number, he said apologetically to Dirk Carter, "Minister Carter, I have an urgent call, may I step out to take it?"
Dirk Carter wasn't naive.
He knew this was all arranged in advance.
He nodded, "Please, Mr. Jacobson."
Boone Jacobson quickly said to Hadley Grant, "Xiaoqin, please take good care of him."
After raising his voice,
A young woman from behind the screen beside the tea table slowly walked out.
The moment she appeared, Dirk Carter's eyes widened.
Not because this Xiaoqin was exceptionally beautiful.
Though she indeed was attractive and had a decent figure, Dirk Carter's surprise wasn't due to her beauty.
It was because Xiaoqin's attire resembled the elegantly patterned traditional silk clothing.
She really looked like a classical beauty from ancient times.
The only difference was that Xiaoqin's clothes were transparent.
They were sewn from an entirely transparent fabric,
One could clearly see the red corset she was wearing and the alluring thong between her thighs through that sheer layer of fabric.
Boone Jacobson said, "Minister Carter, this is Hadley Grant, but you may call her Xiaoqin. She's the proprietress of this place, Savor House."
Hadley Grant gracefully curtsied and said graciously, "Good evening, Minister Carter. I hope you will look after me in Koryn City."
Dirk Carter slightly nodded and responded, "Of course, Ms. Grant."
Just then, Boone Jacobson's phone rang.
He glanced at the number, then apologized to Dirk Carter, "Minister Carter, I've got an urgent call. May I step out for a moment?"
Dirk Carter wasn't caught off guard.
He nodded, "Please, go ahead, Mr. Jacobson."
Boone Jacobson immediately signaled to Hadley Grant, "Xiaoqin, make sure Minister Carter is comfortable."
Hadley Grant offered softly.
