Chapter 294. William questions the goddess - 5
It was now Xythia’s turn to ask her question. This time, however, the cause of curiosity was different; she wanted to know more about William’s true identity.
She no longer asked about his abilities. Instead, she chose personal information.
She asked William about his past.
From his earliest memories to the moment he realized the truth about himself being the son of Anastasia Luneia.
The request caught William off guard. Of all the things she could have asked, why this? What value did his life story hold for a being like her?
Even so, the oath bound him. Suppressing his doubts, William began to narrate.
He spoke of his childhood. He recounted most things and kept out important facts and secrets.
As he spoke, he noticed something unusual.
Xythia was listening with genuine interest.
Earlier, she had shown mild curiosity towards him, but this was different. Her gaze was more serious than before. It was as if she were no longer underestimating him as a mere mortal and was trying hard to understand something about him.
"What is she trying to achieve...?" he wondered silently.
What he did not know was that Xythia’s perspective had completely changed. The incident earlier and the force that erased her memories had left a lasting impression on her. A being capable of affecting her in such a manner could not be ignored.
And William was the one responsible for the phenomena. So in her eyes, he was an anomaly that shouldn’t be ignored.
By the time William finished his narration, there were clear gaps in his story. Certain events did not align properly, and some details were conspicuously absent.
Xythia noticed all of it.
For example, the matter of how he escaped the grasp of a demon at the divine spark realm, while he himself had only been at S-rank, with a spirit barely at the ascension stage.
Such inconsistencies did not go unnoticed. If anything, they only deepened the mystery surrounding him.
Xythia did not press him on those gaps. Instead, she made a quiet decision.
She would learn what she could carefully, cautiously, and without provoking whatever force stood behind him.
Now, it was William’s turn.
Without hesitation, he asked, "Tell me more about the Outer Gods you mentioned earlier."
Xythia gave a slight nod before answering.
"Outer Gods are entities that govern celestial bodies like planets and stars," she began. "Their laws and elements are derived directly from the properties of the cosmic domains they represent."
"These beings are not born in the conventional sense. They are manifestations of the will of a cosmic body. Their existence does not dictate the functioning of that cosmic body. For instance, even if the Goddess of the Moon were to perish or never exist at all, the moon itself would not disappear, nor would it deviate from its path in the sky."
She paused briefly before continuing.
"It would simply mean that the accumulated will that once formed that deity has dissipated and lost its consciousness. That is also why such beings can revive easily unless the cosmic body itself is destroyed, and that makes them near immortal."
William listened intently, absorbing every word.
"In essence, their life is bound to the life of the celestial body," she added. "There exists an ancient lore in my world regarding them."
"It is said that from the moment the universe came into being, stars and planets possessed a form of will. However, that will was confined within their own local boundaries. Unable to move around and influence this farther from them, unable to explore the universe, so finally they created manifestations of themselves, they shaped beings capable of traversing the cosmos freely."
"These manifestations wandered across the cosmos, exploring and satisfying the curiosity of their origin planets. Eventually, they settled upon planets with weaker wills. There, they nurtured and protected those worlds from invasions of malefic existences, while in return, those planets provided them with stability and resources."
"That is how life as we know it came into existence. All beings in the cosmos are, in a sense, descendants of the Outer Gods."
She then shifted her focus back to the broader structure.
"This lore might not be accurate, and you should not consider it real facts."
"These entities exist beyond the conventional planes of our 4existence. They rarely interact with gods like us, and their true scale of power is difficult to determine. Each of them wields unique elements—such as the elements of the sun, moon, Jupiter, or Mercury."
Her expression remained thoughtful.
"These elements are not singular in nature. For example, the element of Jupiter encompasses aspects such as wisdom, prosperity, and growth. While these aspects are typically governed by separate gods in our existence planes, the Jupiter entity possesses them inherently, and somehow, there is no clash between two similar authorities."
She let out a faint breath.
"Because of this overlap, drawing comparisons between Outer Gods and conventional gods is nearly impossible. They rarely reveal themselves, and most of what we know about them comes from ancient records."
With that, her explanation concluded.
The golden scale shifted once more, tipping toward her side again.
William frowned slightly.
The information was invaluable, but the imbalance was becoming a concern. If this continued, he might not be able to recover the scale before the exchange ended.
He steadied himself and waited.
Soon, Xythia asked her next question.
"The sun spell you used on Samantha’s son, what was its rank??, and where did you obtain it?" she asked this question because god spells were almost extinct from the scarred lands; she thought she might get some useful information about William’s secrets from this question.
Of course, she knew Williaqm would not divulge his secrets, but for her, even a small clue might be enough after all the contract bound them to speak the truth.
This time, before answering, William consulted the system.
[It’s a good chance to balance the scale. From the newly unlocked level 9 information, I can say that the unknown being is stronger than Xythia, and its existence is beyond all layers defined in this cosmos.]
Of course, Orion was bluffing about this fact being part of the level 9 information layer, but he was not bluffing about the strength part.
William nodded at Orion’s advice. After all, the spell was a reward from an unknown eye; he was sure that the goddess was nowhere near the level of that being, after all, a goddess did not detect the presence of his infinite domain, which the eye had invaded like nothing.
So even if he revealed the existence of the eye, it would be beneficial to him in two ways.
First, it will balance the scale.
Second, it will act as a deterrent against the goddess. If Xythia was having any funny thoughts, then she would have to think twice before doing anything to him after knowing that William had the backing and favour of an unfathomable being.
"The spell was a reward from a mysterious being called unknown for completing one of his missions, it is a god-ranked spell, I don’t know the name of the being, his appearance is in the form af a single gigantic eye, he also rewarded me control over that otherworldly energy you were curious about earlier, he is stronger than all gods and his existence is higher than your own existence plane, no, in fact, he exists beyond all existence planes."
As William spoke, the scale between the goddess and William shook, and once again it bowed towards William.
Xythia’s eyes widened for a bit before she hid her reaction well. Inside her thoughts were racing, the unknown eye?? She was not sure if she knew about someone like that, but William confirmed it with his own words; this entity was stronger than her, and it was backing William.
She understood the hidden meaning behind William’s words, but she knew that those words were true; they were confirmed by the universal contract between them.
She nodded silently, and this time William asked his last question. "What is a god’s physique? How to refine it?" William asked if it was the first step of his path to eternal sovereign.
