Chapter 194
Chapter 194
Blackwood Tower pierced the night sky, its upper floors gleaming like a sword thrust into the heart of Singapore's business district. Piper stood in the executive elevator, Alexander beside her, as they ascended to the top floor. Gabriel and Noah had gone ahead with security teams, securing the route.
Her phone displayed surveillance feeds of the conference room. Margaret Blackwood sat at the head of the table, elegant as always, surrounded by Singapore's business elite. The Chen family representatives flanked her - a united front of old money and older grudges.
"Ready?" Alexander asked quietly.
Piper checked her reflection in the elevator's mirrored walls. Power suit, perfect makeup, not a hair out of place. War paint for modern battles.
"Last chance to walk away," she said.
"Thirty years too late for that."
The elevator slowed. Floor 88 - her domain.
"Remember," Alexander murmured. "She'll try to divide us. Turn us against each other."
"That's assuming she recognizes you."
His smile was sharp. "Oh, she'll recognize me. A mother never forgets the child she sacrificed."
The doors opened. Gabriel waited with their security detail.
"Perimeter's secure," he reported. "Noah's monitoring all communications. No one sends or receives without us knowing."
Piper nodded. "The formulas?"
"Safe." Gabriel patted his jacket, where Wong's stolen research was secured. "Ready to be destroyed once this is done."
They moved down the corridor, heels clicking on marble. Through glass walls, Singapore sparkled below, oblivious to the war about to be waged in its heights.
At the conference room doors, Piper paused. Inside, her mother was speaking softly to Mr. Tan, likely plotting another betrayal.
"Now," she said.
The doors opened. All conversation ceased as Piper entered, Alexander two steps behind her. She watched her mother's face, and saw the moment recognition hit.
Margaret Blackwood's perfect composure cracked, just slightly.
"Hello, Mother," Piper said, taking her position at the opposite end of the table. "Sorry we're late."
"Piper." Margaret's voice was steady, but her hands gripped her armrests. "And... Alexander."
Murmurs rippled through the assembled power brokers. The Chen family representatives shifted uneasily.
"You remember me." Alexander's tone was conversational. "How nice."
"What is this?" demanded Chen Wei Ming, the family's current patriarch.
"Family reunion," Piper said coolly. "Long overdue."
She remained standing, Gabriel and Noah positioning themselves strategically around the room. On screens behind her, security feeds showed their forces controlling every access point.
"We had an agreement," Mr. Tan began.
"With a traitor." Piper activated the room's displays, showing Wong's arrest footage. "Your conspiracy ends tonight."
Margaret's laugh was soft, dangerous. "Conspiracy? I built an empire."
"On children's bones?" Alexander's voice could have frozen flame. "On chemical experiments and erased memories?"
The Chen family representatives exchanged glances. This wasn't part of their script.
"The formulas," Wei Ming said sharply. "Where are they?"
"Safe," Piper answered. "Unlike the children you helped experiment on."
"It was necessary," Margaret cut in. "We were creating something revolutionary-"
"You were torturing kids!" Alexander's control cracked slightly. "Your own children!"
"I was protecting you!" Margaret stood, mask finally slipping. "Both of you! The Chens wanted test subjects. Wong wanted guinea pigs. I chose the lesser evil!"
"By erasing me?"
"By saving you from them!" She gestured at the Chen family. "They would have destroyed you both! I sent you away to protect you!"
"Enough." Wei Ming's voice cut through the emotion. "The formulas. Now."
"Or what?" Piper asked softly.
"Or your children suffer the same fate." He smiled thinly. "Your son is at such a perfect age to begin testing."
Gabriel moved, but Piper's raised hand stopped him.
"Interesting threat," she said. "Considering Wong just confessed everything to the authorities."
The color drained from Wei Ming's face.
"Oh yes," Piper continued. "The labs, the compounds, the experiments. All of it, documented and delivered to every major law enforcement agency in Asia."
"You're bluffing."
"Check your phones."
They did. Headlines were already breaking: "ILLEGAL HUMAN EXPERIMENTS UNCOVERED IN SINGAPORE."
"You fool," Margaret whispered. "You've destroyed everything."
"No, Mother." Piper's voice was steel. "I've saved everything. Including my brother."
Alexander moved to stand beside her. United front.
"The formulas die tonight," Piper announced. "Along with Project Phoenix. Your empire of suffering ends here."
"You don't understand what you're doing," Wei Ming said. "The power those compounds could give-"
"Is nothing compared to what I already have." Piper smiled. "Legal control of every Chen family asset in Asia. Signed over an hour ago by your board of directors."
"Impossible!"
"Check your accounts." Noah's voice was quietly satisfied. "It's amazing what people will sign when faced with criminal charges."
The room erupted in chaos. Chen family members shouting, security teams tensing, Margaret Blackwood sitting very, very still.
"You've won," she said finally. "Satisfied?"
"Almost." Piper touched a button. Screens showed police entering Chen family properties across Singapore. "I just need to clean the house."
A flash of movement caught her eye. Wei Ming's hand disappearing under the table.
"Gun!" Gabriel shouted.
But the shot came from behind them. Glass shattered as a sniper's bullet pierced the window, missing Piper by inches.
More shots. Security teams responding, guests diving for cover.
Through the chaos, Piper saw her mother moving with purpose, not surprise.
"She planned this," Alexander shouted, pulling her down. "It's her escape route!"
Margaret reached the private elevator just as smoke grenades exploded, filling the room with chaos.
Piper's phone lit up with alerts - armed intruders entering from the roof, more coming up the emergency stairs.
"Not an escape," she realized. "A trap. She's boxing us in!"
Through tearing eyes, she saw Wei Ming grinning. Not running. Waiting.
For what?
The answer came as power to the building cut out, emergency lights casting everything in blood-red shadows.
"Lucky I brought backup," Alexander said grimly, pulling out a phone. "Chen family's private security. The ones still loyal to me."
Outside, helicopters approached. Inside, shooting continued.
Margaret's voice came through the smoke: "Choose, Piper! Perfect heir or expendable backup! Only one leaves alive!"
The game's final round had begun.
And this time, blood would definitely be shed.
The question was: whose?
