Chapter 513
Chapter 513
Third Person's POV
"I don't know what's come over me. I suddenly feel nauseous. I'm really sorry. May I go get a drink of water?"
Jessica asked, feeling a wave of nausea hit her. She was a dedicated actress, and the thought of holding up the shoot due to her condition filled her with guilt.
"Go ahead, we'll wait for you!" the director replied with unusual leniency.
As Jessica walked away, she tried to manage the queasy feeling rising in her throat.
"Strange, could it be the spicy lobster I had at noon?" she wondered, her face a picture of confusion.
After taking a couple of sips of water, the nausea subsided slightly.
Meanwhile, Harley, who had been watching from afar, approached her with concern. "Jessica, are you alright? What's wrong? Are you sick?" he asked.
"It's nothing serious, just a bit of nausea." Jessica forced a weak smile.
"Have you considered seeing a doctor? Don't delay it," Harley advised. Ever since Jessica had helped him arrange a dinner with Catherine, he had taken a liking to her and treated her as a friend.
"I can hold on for now. I'll head to the hospital after filming wraps up," Jessica replied. She dared not leave the set, as she had scenes scheduled for the rest of the day.
"If you need any help, just give me a call!" Harley offered gallantly.
"Thanks!" Jessica said with gratitude as she watched him retreat to his chair to review his lines.
Suddenly, the phone beside Harley's chair rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and answered quickly, "What's their response? Still not agreeing on the price? I've already offered double the market rate!"
"Harley, they insist on meeting you in person," his agent said helplessly.
"Meet me? Why won't they negotiate through you? You're my agent."
Harley frowned, growing increasingly annoyed that purchasing a plot of land had turned into such a hassle.
"They're adamant about meeting you face-to-face; they won't budge otherwise—they think I might be a fraud," the agent explained with a sigh.
"I'll fly back first thing tomorrow. Let them know I'll meet them," Harley said firmly. When he set his mind on something, nothing could deter him. He was determined to meet the sellers and see their stance for himself.
"Wait, the client's granddaughter wants to speak with you," the agent suddenly added.
In the next moment, an angry female voice came through the line, "Is this Harley? Don't bother coming to talk. We're not selling the land, no matter how much you offer, got it?"
Jessica managed to push through the day's shooting schedule despite her discomfort. One particular scene required her to feign unconsciousness on the roadside, to be rescued by Harley, who had to carry her a considerable distance.
The director was highly satisfied with her performance, as Jessica, already unwell, convincingly portrayed the pained expression of an injured and unconscious person.
Noticing her pale complexion, Harley urged her, "Jessica, you really should get to the hospital. Don't delay any further."
"I will, bye!" Jessica turned and headed to her car. Once inside, she immediately called Cedrick.
When one is vulnerable, the voices they long to hear the most are those of their parents or the person they love the most.
The phone connected, and Cedrick's deep, gentle voice came through, "Jess."
"Cedrick, are you off work yet?" It was already dark, and Jessica figured Cedrick must be on his way home.
"I'm on my way. What's up?" Cedrick detected something off in her voice and immediately grew anxious.
"My stomach doesn't feel good. I need to go to the hospital now," Jessica said in a pitiful tone.
"What's wrong with your stomach? Where are you now?" Cedrick's voice betrayed his concern.
Jessica was filming in the city, which was why she called Cedrick.
If she were far away, across several towns, she would have gritted her teeth and endured the discomfort.
"I'm almost home. Wait for you to come back and take me," Jessica said, yearning for the comfort of his embrace.
"Alright, I'm on my way!" Cedrick hung up and urged the driver to speed up.
At the entrance of the residential complex, Cedrick's car pulled up alongside Jessica's.
He got out and rushed to her side. Jessica was already sweating from the pain and felt dizzy.
"Why didn't you go to the hospital earlier?" Cedrick chided, his heart aching at her state.
Jessica managed a weak smile and leaned into the strong embrace of the man as soon as she got into the car.
"Your arms are so comfortable!" she cooed, nestling closer. With Cedrick by her side, she felt no fear in the face of any difficulty.
Cedrick instructed the driver, "Take us to the nearest hospital, and hurry!"
Upon arriving at the hospital, Cedrick noticed Jessica's face had turned even paler, and she was drenched in cold sweat. Without a moment's delay, he carried her out of the car.
"Wait... I forgot my mask!" Jessica whispered urgently.
"Forget the mask!" Cedrick wouldn't let her suffer a second longer and strode straight into the hospital with her in his arms.
Jessica buried her face in his chest, avoiding recognition. Thankfully, no one spotted her.
