My Mate Has Two Wolves

Chapter 382

Chapter 382

Third Person's POV

Richard let out a cold laugh. "The unattainable is always the best. I did love a woman once, but she had poor taste—she chose someone else."

Nick suddenly asked, "The man she loved, was it Marc?"

Richard's face darkened instantly, a shadow crossing his eyes. "What do you know?"

Nick replied calmly, "Not much. I just saw those photos you kept. But I do know one thing—the woman wasn't the one Marc cheated with later."

The car fell silent. Richard turned to stare out the window, his pride wounded as his son exposed his past.

Richard only had Nick, and their relationship had always been lukewarm.

If not for their blood ties, Nick might have distanced himself from his father.

Nick saw traits in himself that he once wanted to escape—ambition, stubbornness, and a reckless urge to jump into the fire.

"Your mother has been gone for years. I think I treated her well and fulfilled my duties as a father to you," Richard sighed after a long silence, his voice tinged with regret.

"But you never loved her," Nick cut in. "You were good to her because she was your wife, and to me because I'm your heir. That's all."

Richard heard the resentment in Nick's voice. He smiled bitterly. "It's a regret. Before I married your mother, I loved another woman deeply. Your mother married me willingly, knowing I had someone else in my heart."

"That's why I called her a fool," Nick said flatly, his face unreadable. "She thought that woman's death would make you love her instead. She waited her whole life, gentle and patient. Yet when she died, you were in prison—not even there to see her one last time."

Seeing too much, experiencing too much, sadness becomes numb, and it's just that.

Richard felt a pang of panic. He clenched his fists, his eyes flickering as if someone had exposed his wounds, his face paling then flushing with anger.

"That's why I want to reclaim the inheritance for you. You're my son, my pride. No one can replace you in my heart. Let's not bring this up again, okay?" Richard's voice was filled with fatherly love, almost pleading with Nick.

Nick nodded. "I never wanted to bring it up. Whether we talk about it or not, the result is the same."

"Then don't mention it to anyone," Richard said, his face relaxing a bit when Nick agreed.

Nick's lips curled into a barely noticeable smirk, and he sped up.

Richard fell into a long silence, staring at the unfamiliar scenery and streets outside, his thoughts drifting far away.

He remembered clearly, Olivia kneeling before him, begging for mercy.

He had a gun in his hand, ready to pull the trigger, but he couldn't erase that familiar yet strange face from his memory.

Olivia swore many oaths, pleading with him, promising to keep everything a secret.

His heart softened. He lowered the gun.

The woman with a face similar to Olivia's would never kneel and beg him like that.

At that moment, he truly hated Olivia, wanting to tear her face off so she wouldn't wear the face he loved while acting so lowly.

In the end, he spared Olivia's life, all because of that face.

The angel in his heart was dead. He naively thought that by sparing Olivia, he could pretend it was the angel living on.

His past mercy had become his greatest fear today.

Richard's eyes flashed with cruelty. If he found Olivia again, he wouldn't let her go. He wouldn't give her another chance to escape because he didn't want to see the face he loved age.

***Twitty's Residence

Ash was two years and three months old, with two little pigtails and big, crystal-clear eyes that blinked adorably.

Her chubby cheeks, hands, and legs were soft and white, simply delightful.

Especially when she smiled, her big eyes turned into crescent moons, melting even the toughest hearts.

Ash quietly got up. Beside her, Howard was sound asleep.

She climbed out of bed and saw many interesting things in the nearby cabinet. Her little hands reached for a lipstick.

Ash blinked, then struggled back onto the bed.

She sat beside Howard, her tiny hands wrestling with the lipstick cap.

With a "pop," she managed to open it. Her face lit up with excitement at the bright red color.
