69 The Ever-Evolving Chaos pov
The Moon Touched and Snow Moon pack's ranking wolves spend every moment that they are not dealing with pack business, helping Katia’s family try to figure out where, on Mount Olympus, Uranus is concealing the island he is keeping her on. Nathan didn’t understand how things worked in that realm. All he knew was that the gods were more distrustful of one another than wolves were of other species. Mount Olympus was magic unto itself and would do as a god asked. It could only be undone if the same god asked it to be undone.
Exasperated that three days had gone by and still they had come up with nothing. Nathan finally broke down and did the one thing he really was not ready to do. He asked Kane, “Can you ask Zeus to come and help us? Mount Olympus is his domain and creation.”
Kane gasped, “Are you sure?”
“I’ll do anything to get her back here and away from her grandfather. Even if I have to face my real father’s dissatisfaction with me,” Nathan responded.
“Alright, I will go later this afternoon. Hera said he was meeting with some lower angels this morning because there were some dissentions in the higher ranks that are making things difficult for the others.” Kane divulged.
Mark and Kelp came sauntering into Nathan’s office just as he and Kane had made the decision, and they informed the two men of what they had decided about Zeus. Mark and Kelp agreed with the decision. Nathan suggested moving outside to around the bonfire that seems to burn all the time now. It was one of Katia’s favorite things, especially as it started to get cold. Nathan realized it was almost February now and that his luna had been gone for over a month now. For over a month, she has lived feeling betrayed and broken by him. He was the reason she did what she did, and he would never forgive himself.
Sitting around the fire, Nathan noticed that all the others were there once again. Doc, Coral, Eric, Dalia, Selene, Hyperion, Theia, and Lucifer. If Cronos was not here, then he must be visiting their little ghost, as they call her. She wasn’t really his anymore, she belonged more to them again. The undying and nonjudgemental love they had for her was everlasting. They had only known her for such a short time, and he wished he knew what it was that drew the broken and damaged to her. It was like she was a beacon to them. He wondered if it was the same for Selene and that was why wolves were still showing up in need of a safe place to stay and heal. Selene spent mor time here now than she does in her own realm. She and Mark seemed to have grown close.
It was starting to snow again. Looking around at everyone, he watched as they were sticking their tongues out trying to catch snowflakes. Of course, the women started it and the men followed as usual. Nathan wondered if Katia got snow on her island. Did she wish for it? Cronos says she is happy. Was her life truly that bad that she would wish to live just her and her wolf for the rest of eternity? What would happen if Uranus died the god’s death? Would she be stuck there? Cronos and Lucifer cannot get to her without the help of Uranus. Nathan was driving himself crazy again. Usually, these questions took over as he was trying to fall asleep at night. He held his little mate’s pillow every night. It was starting to lose her scent now though. That was why he had walked out to her cabin. He knew her scent would still be there, and he needed to smell her. He hated nighttime and sleep. When he slept, he dreamed of her beautiful smiling face, and then it morphed into terror as he relives what he did to her every night.
Nathan’s phone rings, taking him out of his thoughts. Looking at his phone, he sees it is Alpha Lorn and answers. “Lorn, how are you? Everything okay?” Standing, he walks a distance, stops, and listens. Everyone else had stopped catching snowflakes and was trying to listen in also. They cannot hear much as Nathan paces back and forth. All he is saying is uh huh, and you're kidding. The look on his face though tells them that something is wrong. Finally, Nathan thanks Alpha Lorn for calling and hangs up. Walking back to the fire, Nathan puts his phone back in his pocket and sits down. He then repeats what Alpha Lorn called to tell him. An angel visited the other Alpha and apparently was not very friendly to our kind. Anyone really from this realm.
Hyperion asked, “What was the angel’s name?”
Nathan revealed the angel's name as Cael and wanted to know, “Why is that something important? The angel’s name?”
Hyperion grumbled, “Yes, if certain angels are aligning themselves with a certain god of the sky, I may be able to figure out what he is up to.”
Kane clearly understood where Hyperion was going with his line of thought. “Would explain some of the problems Zeus has been having with the ranking angels”, Kane reasoned.
Nodding, Hyperion still did not understand what the end goal was that Uranus was after. If he wiped out the earth realm, that would leave nothing but the gods. No one to need them and nothing for the gods to look after and keep safe. They would fade into nothing. Like the titans are doing now. The earth realm has developed weapons of war and threatens each other with those. The gods constantly fighting is getting old, and the titans want nothing to do with it anymore. Eventually, Uranus will lose his position to Cronos and, hopefully, all the fighting will come to an end in that realm. Hyperion did not think so. He worried that his brother would be worse than his father as the leader of the gods.
“Father, do you know why grandfather would be working with the angels against Zeus?” Selene questioned.
Shaking his head negatively, Hyperion ventured to say, “I am not sure. I would say that he is gathering an army, but the question is for what? Who is he going after? He has many reasons for going after many different gods and titans. We have all wronged in some way according to Uranus.”
Theia joined the conversation with the next question, “What does he want with my little girl? I am glad he did not kill her, but what does he want with her?”
“I don’t know heart of mine, I don’t know. Don’t worry, we will find out and we will find her.” Hyperion crooned to Theia, rubbing her back as she stood in his arms.
Maria had served them some hot chocolate and brought some marshmallows for them to roast over the fire. Some of the older kids were now begging for marshmallows and the adults were laughing with them as they ate them. In between giving the children some normalcy for a change, they still discussed the situation of Uranus and Katia. It was never far from any of their minds. Kane received a message that Zeus would visit the next morning to hear what his son wanted from him. Kane imparted to Nathan that Zeus took some convincing to come here. He still does not approve of Nathan and his behavior.
“Alpha Mark”, someone called in the distance.
Just then Mark’s eyes glazed over. Someone was obviously linking him. Another “Alpha Mark” was heard in the distance. Nathan was willing to bet that the only reason they could hear it was because of their wolf hearing. Mark’s eyes unglazed and he jumped to his feet. His face was white as a ghost. Kelp was immediately on his feet. “What? What is it? Did something happen to one of the pack members?”
“No, nothing has happened to anyone in the pack,” Mark responded. Again, someone called, “Alpha Mark, please we need your help.”
Mark’s eyes glazed over again and this time when they cleared, he looked frantic. “What? What is it, Mark?” Nathan questioned this time.
Mark began to shift as he said, “Two female wolves just collapsed at the Moon Touched gates. They were seeking refuge.”
Everyone looked at him, wondering why that seemed to be a surprise. This happened quite a bit and the majority were female.
Just as the shift took him, he exclaimed, “They are white wolves!”
They all shifted and took off, following him. The white wolf was thought to be extinct.
