Chapter 545: Crying will make it all better.

Chapter 545: Crying will make it all better.

It was night.

Edward Stephens arrived at the Tsing City police station, travel-worn, just as Daisy Ginger finished her statement and was escorted out of the officer’s office by a female police officer.

Unlike when she left at noon, she now looked extremely disheveled.

Her hair was loose and unkempt, her makeup removed; revealing a pale face marked by obvious bruises and abrasions, blood on her forehead, and her cheeks already swollen.

When she left at noon, she was wearing a black and white business suit, which she had visibly changed out of; probably purchased by the female officer, slightly large.

"Edward?"

Daisy was talking with the female officer and instinctively called out to Edward Stephens upon seeing him enter.

Edward didn’t respond, his face frighteningly dark, as he approached, grabbed her wrist, scrutinized her up and down several times, and suddenly pulled her into his embrace.

Their chests overlapped, she could feel the frantic beating of his heart, contrasting with his outward calm.

Seeing him, Daisy felt aggrieved and a lump formed in her throat; though she hadn’t cried after making the statement, her eyes now brimmed with tears, and she softly called him: "Edward."

Her voice was hoarse.

The female officer tactfully stepped aside to allow both to regain their composure, and only after Edward and Daisy had calmed down did she approach Daisy saying, "Go home and rest first, we’ll notify you immediately if there’s any progress on our side."

Daisy nodded and responded, saying "Understood."

Edward didn’t speak; he stood beside her, gripping her hand tightly. Daisy’s fingertips were icy, her appearance calm yet her whole body continued to tremble slightly.

It had been barely over an hour since the incident occurred.

In the company’s parking lot, five men suddenly rushed at her, dragged her into a corner, and attempted to assault her.

Because four o’clock wasn’t typically off-hours, the parking lot was mostly empty; if a car hadn’t happened to drive in from outside and reported her ordeal, she might really have been raped.

Although no substantial harm occurred, the sense of helplessness and fear lingered in her nerves, with cold sweat on her palms.

Back in the car, she tightly embraced Edward Stephens.

At that moment, only the presence of this man could make her feel safe.

Edward remained silent; his arms wrapped around her, helping her cold body gradually regain warmth.

In his embrace, Daisy finally couldn’t hold back and began to cry.

"I’m so scared," she sobbed.

"I know." He held her tighter, "I’m sorry."

"It’s not your fault."

Despite her words, the tears wouldn’t stop, as though she needed to pour out the fear and tears together. Daisy cried for half an hour, leaving his shirt in a mess, before finally calming down.

"I dirtied your shirt."

She raised her head, her voice thick with emotion, and looked at the profound, handsome face of the man.

The man gazed at her deeply, reaching out to gently caress her colorless face, softly asking, "Feeling better?"

Daisy sniffled, nodded, "Crying it out made it better."

The man gently smoothed her hair, "Then let’s go home first."

Daisy returned to her apartment and took a shower first. Seeing the marks on her skin left by those men, she couldn’t help but stay in the bathroom and cry for a while.

The fear still lingered in her body; those mere ten minutes may cause her nightmares for months to come.
