Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Cody didn’t do parties. He didn’t do functions. Hell, he was a loner. Dinner with his sister, brothers, and Freda was undoubtedly all the socializing he needed. A sit down on the porch with a cold beer and his brothers proved to be more his thing. He liked his life a certain way, controllable. Why then did he attend the party?
Samantha.
Her name alone set him on fire. His body flushed from a deep hunger and generated an off the charts arousal in desperate need of satiation. Not anyone would do, though. The welcome cool breeze whispered over his heated body. He stared out the window at the moonlit darkness.
It seemed like the battle he assumed he left behind still raged anew in his head. The trip to Texas was more of an evasive tactic to get his mind and body back in control. A useless waste of time. In her sexy crimson dress, her hair pulled up into a sleek ponytail to amplify her large almond shaped eyes, Cody found himself adrift once more. A sensation which left him completely spellbound.
Emotional involvement wasn’t his thing. It meant compromise and compromise meant commitment. Was he ready for commitment now? Unfortunately, an appropriate answer eluded his normally quick wit. And that was the thing. His life, as he viewed it, remained uncomplicated at the moment. He didn’t do complicated well. Commitments were almost always complex.
Even if he conceded right now, what about Samantha? On her return home, she may shove their fling to the back of her mind as nothing but a forgotten holiday romance. Where would that leave him? He couldn’t ask her for more, could he? Her inclination not to reveal details of their night together made him wonder how much it actually meant.
Cody still wanted her though, the fire more persistent than before. The fascination damn near fatal. Jesus, could someone really suffer desire this much? Yes, he’d dated women and fell in love. Well, he assumed it was love. Hell, it was debatable whether he’d recognize love even if it kicked him in the gut. Yet never in his wildest imagination did he experience anything as this blatant knock your boots off feelings for a woman. Why now and why Samantha? This was earth shattering, spine crushing sensations, potent even for the strongest of men. People called him strong but resilient enough to handle the likes of Samantha? Only time would tell.
He pushed his shoulder into the window frame, rested his head in his palm, and fixed his gaze on the empty plains shrouded now in silent obscurity.
Seeing Samantha in Chance’s arms started a rollercoaster of unbridled jealousy. The presence of guests ended his erratic suspicions quickly. The dance request, his first serious mistake of the night, his body reacted to her smallest of moves. The memory of the snug fit of her body against his flooded his cock with instant heat.
Damn. What was this feeling? It definitely wasn’t lustful craving. Why are you fighting the attraction? Samantha was way too hot to handle and the longer he played with fire the quicker he’d get burned. Stay away dammit.
Foregoing his boxers, Cody slid naked between the sheets. Aroused, he tossed restlessly. Cloying irritation unsettled his usual cool composure. A niggling calm before the storm, he couldn’t describe. Something was coming. He didn’t know what. But he could feel it.
The sound of the doorknob turning caught his ear. He lifted his head and switched on the bedside lamp. No one ever entered his room without a knock. Cody cursed softly when the object of his stubborn arousal entered the room.
“What are you doing here, Lady?” he grunted. As if dealing with an obsessive cock wasn’t already painful. Now here she was in the flesh to taunt him again. Freda’s constant advice of ‘put your desires out to the Universe’ appeared to be true.
“That’s no way to greet a lady.” Her tongue darted out and licked her lips insolently. “Did I disturb you?”
“To what do I owe the honor of your lustrous presence? Better?” Sarcasm helped fight his annoyance. Goddammit, he wanted her so much, it hurt.
Unfazed, she slid farther into the room. Samantha reached under her arm and unzipped her dress. “Since you missed out, I come bearing treats.” One beautiful dark brow rose playfully. The curve lent her features an alluring wickedness.
Huh? The sound of the zipper sliding down seized his attention and sent a shudder through his heated body. He swallowed. “Samantha, what are you doing?” Cody gripped the sheets tightly.
“Like I said, treats decorated with sugar and spice and all things nice.” Her lips dipped in mischief as she slipped out of her dress and it fell to the floor with a soft swoosh.
Dressed only in her panties, garter belt, the sheerest of stockings, and the soft yellow hue of the bedside light she was undeniably a sight to reckon with. Words defeated his usual crassness. Is this really happening? This is a dream. He slapped his face to make sure and flinched when his hand connected with his cheek.
“Oh, you’re not dreaming, Mr. Bentley. I’m most certainly here in the flesh,” she said cheekily.
“Samantha, what the devil are you tryin’ to do to me?” He mustered every ounce of strength not to jump out of bed.
“Simple. I’m tired of your evasive tactics.” She sat on the edge of his bed, unfastened one of the tabs holding her stockings, rolled it down, and then slid it off.
Mesmerized, Cody gaped as she released the other tab, slowly rolled down the stocking, and pulled it off. “What evasive tactics are you talkin’ about, Lady?”
“Well, remember the first day I met you…” she stopped, slipped off her panties, and then sashayed forward.
His chest tightened. Panting for air, his breath puffed out unevenly. Her naked body cloaked only in the soft light played havoc with his already tormented senses. The harsh hammer of his heart filled his ears. A month ago if someone told him this beautiful apparition would appear in his room right this minute, he would’ve laughed in their face.
“I told you I’m unlike other women,” she whispered. Samantha picked up his hand and kissed the inside of his palm tenderly. “I also told you, I do as I please—” She inserted one finger into her mouth and sucked on it slowly. “I go where I please—” She withdrew the finger and replaced it with another.
Cody gulped. Pleasure so painful it singed his body. Aroused and hard, his cock tented the sheet.
“I forgot to mention one more thing—” She inserted a third finger into her mouth. “I always get what I want—”
“And what do you want.” Cody fought to steady his voice.
She released his finger and created giddy circles in the center of his palm with the tip of her tongue. He needed to stop this right now before it went any further, but…
Samantha crawled onto the bed, a firm grip on his hand, and transferred the tip of her tongue across his heaving chest. He inhaled sharply and found it unbearably difficult to remain calm. The urge to bury his aching cock inside her softness burned rapidly. It meant giving in.
“Dammit, Samantha what do you want…” His thunderous roar funneled out as a croak.
“I want—” she flicked the tip of her tongue over his nipple. “—I want you, Cody.”
“No, Samantha, we shouldn’t—” The firm grasp of her fingers on his cock expunged his words. She stroked the length of him while her tongue sucked lightly on his nipple. The ministrations of her hand bewitched him as she squeezed and released his cock.
“Damn.” He hissed.
Cody debated between stopping her and urging her on. Lost in a mindless chasm of sexual need, he gripped the sheet tightly. This vixen definitely understood the effect she held over his tormented body. His nipples harden at her touch and he noticed the green of her irises darken. He shut his eyelids tight, mentally fighting her charisma. She grasped him harder and trailed her wet tongue down his chest. Cody groaned.
“You are one very stubborn man,” she whispered between licks.
