Waste of Time
Waste of Time
Anna and Liam exchanged a glance and decided to leave to avoid a direct confrontation with Ethan.
However, Suzy was unwilling to leave.
Anna gave her a warning glare.
Knowing that she would rely on Anna in the future, Suzy didn't dare to openly defy her command. Reluctantly, she followed them out.
Once outside, the three of them descended the stairs, and Anna called Ethan.
Ethan, who was deeply asleep, was awakened by the ringing of his phone. Afraid of disturbing Samantha, he immediately answered, deliberately lowering his voice, "What's the matter?"
Feeling his intentional attempt to lower his voice, Anna felt irritated.
"I'm on the first floor of Chelsea Creek now. Bring Samantha to see me immediately."
Without waiting for Ethan's response, she hung up.
As the busy tone sounded from the phone's other end, Ethan unconsciously furrowed his brows, looking at the still-sleeping Samantha. He gently covered her with the blanket.
He had actually fallen asleep last night.
Since the death of Jessica, he hadn't slept so soundly and deeply for a long time.
He knew it was all thanks to Samantha.
Missing the warmth of someone in his arms, Samantha frowned discontentedly and instinctively groped around.
Her attachment made Ethan's lips unconsciously curl up. Softening, he lay back down beside her.
Feeling his warmth, Samantha's heart settled, and she soon drifted back to sleep.
Ethan did not heed Anna's command. He silenced his phone, placed it aside, and continued to sleep with his arm around Samantha.
At the same time, Charlotte slowly woke up, rubbing her sleepy eyes. She got out of bed, went to the bathroom, and brushed her teeth.
Justin sat on the edge of the bed, watching the soft and cute Charlotte. Involuntarily, memories of Samantha's childhood flashed in his mind, and he couldn't help but smile.
Charlotte was like a younger version of Samantha. Though he was reluctant to admit it, the fact that Charlotte was Samantha's biological daughter couldn't be changed.
After freshening up, Charlotte returned to her room to change and get ready for breakfast.
However, when she saw Justin sitting on the edge of her bed, she was startled. She took a few cautious steps back. "Who are you? Why are you in my room? Where's my mommy?"
Justin leaned on the desk by the bedside, supporting his chin with one hand, looking at Charlotte with a playful expression. "Your mommy sent me a message last night, asking me to come and take care of you temporarily."
Charlotte pouted, "I still don't know you."
Justin raised an eyebrow, "Really? We've met several times."
Hearing this, Charlotte tilted her head, carefully thinking for a moment.
Suddenly, a light bulb lit up in her mind, and she remembered Justin.
"I remember now! You're the bad uncle who made my mommy cry?"
Justin asked puzzled, "Made your mommy cry? When?"
Charlotte, unguarded, replied truthfully, "It was the first time we met in the neighborhood. After you left, my mommy cried a lot!"
"Your mommy cried that day?" Justin furrowed his brows.
On the day he left, Samantha actually cried.
Justin's dead heart resurrected for a night, reigniting with emotions. He pulled Charlotte closer, full of anticipation, and asked, "Where's your daddy? Why have I never seen your daddy?"
Charlotte innocently said, "My mommy said my daddy is an astronaut and went to outer space. He's not at home."
Justin raised an eyebrow.
These words were obviously a way to comfort a child.
If Samantha really got married, why would she lie to her child?
Could it be...
A bold idea emerged in his mind.
He asked Charlotte, "Have you seen your daddy?"
Charlotte nodded. "I saw my daddy just last night. But he was really mean, only liked Alexander, didn't like me, and scolded mommy. I don't like him anymore."
Justin thought for a moment and asked, "The father you mentioned, does he look exactly like your brother?"
Charlotte nodded truthfully.
Justin immediately connected all the clues, and his heart rekindled with hope.
Samantha said Alexander was adopted, and Alexander and Charlotte were unaware.
But the father Charlotte mentioned, who looked exactly like Alexander, must be Ethan without a doubt.
So, Samantha had never been married.
All her previous words were lies to him.
Realizing this possibility, Justin felt boundless joy in his heart.
He ruffled Charlotte's little head, "Hurry up and change your clothes. I'll take you out for breakfast, then send you to kindergarten."
As long as he could be with Samantha, he didn't mind having an extra daughter.
Charlotte quickly changed into her clothes, and the two of them held hands, ready to go out.
Unexpectedly, they bumped into Karen.
Karen didn't expect to see Justin in her own home. She was momentarily stunned, then greeted him with joy, "Justin, did you come here just to find me?"
Justin, as if just realizing it was Karen's home, furrowed his brows and asked, "You didn't come back all night?"
Karen, without blushing or breathing heavily, lied, "I worked overtime last night and didn't want to disturb Samantha, so I spent the night at the office. Now, I'm going home to take a shower and rest before heading back to the office."
In fact, she didn't want to see Samantha, so ever since Samantha and Yurika moved in, she had found various excuses to stay out overnight.
Justin didn't delve into it.
"Samantha has something to do, so she asked me to take care of Charlotte. I'll take her out for breakfast first and then send her to kindergarten."
After saying that, he lowered his head and gently asked Charlotte, "What do you want to eat?"
Charlotte, tilting her little head, thought seriously for a while.
"I want to eat cream soup, garlic bread, milk, and egg tart..."
Justin affectionately rubbed her little head, "Alright! I'll buy them all for you..."
The warmth in his eyes was almost overflowing.
Karen immediately retorted, "I'll go with you."
Justin didn't even bother to respond, "No need. We're in a hurry. There's no extra time to waste."
He didn't spare a glance at Karen.
Karen was infuriated, almost spitting blood.
Waste of time?
As an adult, was she slower than a child?
In the end, he just didn't want her to go.
How infuriating!
This was clearly the illegitimate child born to Samantha, but Justin treated her so tenderly.
Yet, he was so indifferent to her.
Wasn't he bothered at all?
...
Justin took Charlotte and enjoyed all the breakfast items she wanted to eat.
Charlotte, content, carried her little backpack to kindergarten.
Before entering, Justin squatted down and couldn't help but rub her little head, asking, "Do you think I am good?"
Charlotte nodded happily, "You are very good."
As long as he bought her food, she thought he was a good person.
Justin took advantage of the situation, "Then, how about me being your daddy?"
Unexpectedly, Charlotte shook her head without hesitation, "No, I already have a daddy. You can't be my daddy."
Justin wasn't angry.
To win a child's heart, one must proceed slowly and not rush, or it would backfire.
Afraid that he might be upset, Charlotte added, "But you can be my godfather!"
Mommy said this uncle was going to marry her godmother soon, so she should call him godfather.
Justin smiled but neither agreed nor refused, and then he sent her into the kindergarten.
